Saltar al contenido | Would you like to work with us? | | We are an emerging research group studying the human microbiome, in particular the microbiota of the oral cavity. We are a multidisciplinary group, in which every idea is taken into account. We work with the latest technology, at a research center committed to give full support to research in areas related to public health, in a great city to live, full of green areas, close to the beach and with privileged climate. | | More information | | Metagenomics of the Gastrointestinal Microbiome | | | | | As most GIT microbial species have so far eluded cultivation, molecular methods are needed to gain insight into the composition, functioning and evolution of this microbial assemblage. Analysis of 16S ribosomal RNA genes has enabled considerable progress in the characterization of GIT microbial communities, and has established the predominance of Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes in this ecosystem while revealing a substantial variability in the particular bacterial lineages carried by each individual. High-throughput sequencing, especially since the advent of extensively parallel, next generation technologies, enables further exploration of the GIT microbiome through metagenomics and metatranscriptomics. | | These approaches are revealing the functional complexity of the collective metagenome of the GIT microbial communities. We employ these technologies and approaches to contribute to the development of an extensive body of knowledge on the GIT microbiome, focussing our efforts on four major research themes: the elucidation of differences in the GIT microbiome of healthy subjects and patients suffering from different diseases, the development of the microbiome in infants, the study of the viral metagenome and the analysis of specific fractions of the GIT microbiome by cytometry and single-cell genomics. | | Research | | | | | | | | The GIT microbiome in health & disease | | Development of the GIT microbiome in infants | | The GIT viral metagenome | | Flow cytometry and single-cell genomics | | | | | | | | | | | Juntos podemos encontrar soluciones para los problemas de Salud Pública Haciendo un donativo al CSISP, estás ayudando al desarrollo de proyectos de investigación en salud pública en campos tan diversos como el cáncer, sida, hepatitis, enfermedades cardiovasculares, osteoporosis, etc. | | | |
